Utah Valley University Strength and Conditioning Soccer Club Coach
I have always been active. I played all kinds of sports growing up but really spent most of my time on the soccer field. I played soccer in college. I was always a small player but my speed and agility made up for what I lacked in size. When I was deployed to Iraq I decided I needed to be a more rounded athlete so that is when I began doing CrossFit and never looked back. CrossFit has helped me develop the all-around fitness that allows me to accomplish anything life throws at me.
While I was deployed to Iraq, a nagging soccer injury prevented me from doing the simplest of tasks. I couldn't run more than a mile without arthritis in my lower back seizing up. I went to the doctor and the doctor stated that unless I build up my core, I would never get over this pain. Insert CrossFit... After about 2 months of doing CrossFit, I was running 5-10 miles without pain, and fast forward 10 years and I have no lower back pain due to my soccer injury.
I have always had a passion for coaching. I didn't realize this until later on in life but even as a student-athlete I found myself coaching and teaching my fellow athletes. I was named captains of my teams and always felt responsible for the success of my team. That innate nature carries me through as a coach today. Your success is my success and your failures are my failures. I feel this strongly as your coach. Seeing you succeed is all that matters to me.
