Coach Dan's Sunday Spotlight 4.4.2021

Happy Easter everybody!

CrossFit Open
The CrossFit Open is finished and for most of us that ends our CrossFit Games season but for some, they are moving on! More on that in a second. For everyone who participated this year, I hope you had fun. For me, it was so nice to get back to testing our fitness while supporting each other. I love the open because I get to see you all push your limits and cheer each other on. I love Friday Night Lights during the open. I love to see you all work hard and leave it all on the floor and I love looking back on pictures from your hard work. So congratulations on another Open season complete.

CrossFit QuarterFinals
There are a few of our CFTP family who have qualified for the next stage! I love that they are doing a next stage and that we get the chance to watch and cheer on our competitors. Here's who has made the next stage for our gym:
Individual Qualifiers:
Lindsay Winn
Karissa Jackson
Lisa Moore
Krishelle Butterfield
Danny Reeder

*If these athletes so choose, they will be competing this weekend in the Individual Quarterfinals! These 5 individuals ranked in the top 10% on the North American Continent!*

Age-Group Online Qualifiers:
35-39 Women:
Lindsay Winn
Lisa Moore
35-39 Men:
Danny Reeder
40-44 Women:
Krishelle Butterfield

*Same list as above but they also qualified for their age-group qualifiers which will take place May 6-10! To qualify for this stage they had to be top 10% in their age group worldwide!

It is really quite an accomplishment to be invited to the next stage of competition and I am super excited to see them compete in the next stage. It costs $50 for them to compete and CrossFit The Point is covering the cost but I figured we could go a step further and so I am creating a special edition shirt dedicated to these athletes celebrating this accomplishment. Once I get the design complete, I will be putting it on the app for you all to order your own to show your support. I don't want a little buy in to deter these athletes from seeing how far they can go at the next stage!

CrossFit Open Intramural
The points for the Intramural are being tabulated as we speak! I will announce the winners later on today. Here is what the winning team gets and what the top individual point getter gets:
Winning team will receive a custom champions mug or tumbler (Team choice)
Top individual point getter will receive a mug or tumbler + 1 free month at The Point.

Dexabody 2nd Quarter Side Hustle
The Dexabody Van is coming to The Point on April 20th to scan for the competitors from quarter 1 and to scan for those who are competing in quarter 2. You can sign up for your time here!

For quarter 2 I am going to be adding another dimension to add to the fun and to help keep us accountable and consistent. I will be adding a team portion to the competition. I am still working out details but essentially we will have a few team captains and those captains will draft their team. At the end of the competition, the team with the highest percentage of percentage change wins. Prizes are still being determined but thinking that the losing team pays for the dinner of the winning team and we all go out and eat together! Something along those lines.
I am excited to do this and #teamDan is going to bring it!

9 Years Old
This past week CrossFit The Point celebrated 9 years from when we opened. It's crazy to think it's been that long. On April 1st we celebrated the anniversary with a workout, "Bull". 1 year ago we had to celebrate our birthday at home since the pandemic closed our doors. My memory is terrible and I was trying to remember if we programmed Bull for the at-home zoom workout and I remember that we did...

The reason I bring this up is because I remember programming it and I also remember doing it but I also remember not finishing it. I started the workout with intentions to finish the workout fully. I got going and just like this past week, I struggled and I started to question why I was even doing it. I finished the first round and went off on my run. I got back in and at that point, because I was home and didn't have you all there with me, I called 1 round good and quit. Had I been at the gym doing along side all of you, there is no way I would have quit.

I think we sometimes forget how vital we are to the success of our friends. If there is one thing I learned over the past 8 years of CrossFit The Point is that I would not be who I am today without all of you. I would not work as hard as I do if it weren't for you all being there to motivate me and to push me. I cannot push myself at home the way I push myself when I am working out along side you. The programming, the coaching, the structure of The Point are all essential parts that make CrossFit The Point great but the key ingredient to the success that so many of you realize at The Point is your gym family.

Knowing that our gym peeps expect us to be there each and every day motivates us to go. Knowing that if you don't show up, you will be missed makes you more consistent. You being more consistent, makes you more successful and helps you accomplish your goals. It all goes hand in hand.

I am so grateful that we all have a place that we can go and we can push ourselves and challenge ourselves. Thank you for being the driving force for me and for so many others to be healthy and fit.

Take a trip down memory lane with me with this dope video that Big Mike compiled for us!
