Coach Dan's Sunday Spotlight 3.28.2021

Good morning!

Friday Night Lights - Fundraiser
What a night! I want to start by thanking everyone who contributed to The Wolf Pact in one way or another. A few shout outs... First off Mrs. Bluffdale, Mandy Turner, who organized the auction and raffle and brought this group to our attention. Melissa Bertuzzi and Ben Simonsen who donated their time and expertise in creating the dope shirts for the fundraiser and our open. Matt Hess, who provided the delicious grub for all who came Friday Night! He used his connections and covered the rest with his own money! And finally each and every one of you who either donated prizes, bid on prizes (Renee walked out with a bag full of prizes she won in the auction), bought raffle tickets, or just straight up donated cash to the cause. I don't know how much the total donation came out to from this event but it definitely exceeded $2,000 which will go directly to The Wolf Pact who takes no administrative costs and puts it right into the program to continue to help our local teens figure out life and help us parents deal with tough situations such as suicide and depression that our young people are suffering through. It was such an honor learning more about The Wolf Pact and I look forward to working with them more in the future as I see this as a very real problem and this group is truly doing something about it.

I have posted pictures taken by my lovely wife Emily to our CrossFit The Point Facebook page. Check out our gym mates as they took on 21.3 and 21.4!

Mrs. International 2019

Human Connection
We were lucky enough to work with Mrs. International 2019, founder of The Wolf Pact, Robin Towle, this past weekend at our fundraiser. After the event she posted this about human connection.

"A big shout out to @MandyTurner and CrossFit The Point for hosting a suicide prevention event! I can’t believe the participation and the awesome connection you could feel at this gym! Connection is key for suicide prevention. I love what this gym is about!

Thank you so much for supporting The Wolf Pact"

This is so important on so many levels. If anything, this past 2020 has put a spotlight on this truth. Never before in my life have I felt like I needed human connection more than when it was taken away from me during this pandemic. I always saw coaching at the gym as a means to an end until I wasn't allowed to do it anymore. I used to take for granted being greeted by smiling faces until I couldn't see those smiling faces anymore. And when that all happened, I felt myself being more frustrated over trivial events. I found myself getting depressed out of the blue. I found myself stressing over things that in the grand scheme of things really don't matter. Oh and I also put on 20 pounds...
On Friday night, seeing all of you at The Point cheering each other on and seeing everyone smiling and having a good time, coaching each other, giving advice... It made me realize more than ever how much we need each other. We need that human connection to survive. We need you and you need us. I think the sooner we realize this, the sooner we can get over much of what is troubling us. Coming to Point Fitness is more than just a physical exercise, it's a mental break. It's a chance for us to commiserate together. It's a chance for us to share each other's burdens. It's a chance for us to complain with like-minded individuals about a stupid workout that pushes us to the brink.
Thank you for being there for each other and for being constantly ready to help each other out.
